The delivery volume of new retail space in 2020 amounted to 192,000 sq m against 600,000 sq m announced by developers at the beginning of the year. This delivery volume is the lowest for the past 10 years. This is due to measures taken to tackle the coronavirus infection and the introduction of restrictions in most regions throughout the year.
The expected volume of commissioning in 2021 is approximately 400,000 sq m. A significant proportion of this volume is made up of objects whose opening dates have been moved from 2020. 100,000 sq m has been announced in cities with a population of 100-300 thousand people, such as Grozny, Tambov, Nefteyugansk.
About 50% of retail space due for commissioning in 2021 is located in the Volga Federal District. Nizhnekamsk, Kirov and Perm have a low level of high-quality supply; in Nizhny Novgorod, the last large shopping center was opened six years ago.
